Instructions for contributors to "Archäologische Mitteilungen aus Nordwestdeutschland" and "Experimentelle Archäologie"

Text
- Manuscripts have to be written in a compatible program or common software; as a rule in Word for Windows;
- The text must not contain any formats (e.g. columns) and no syllabification;
- Enumerations are ordered by dash (not: a), b)..., or 1., 2.);
- Abbreviations have to be avoided;
- Together with the disc (or CD-ROM) an identical, correction-free printout has to be submitted;
- Spelling according the guidelines of the ìReform der deutschen Rechtschreibung", valid since 01.08.1998.
The only and complete order of the article consists of:
- Text;
- Summary (only in "Experimentelle Archäologie"). If the article is written in English or French, the actual text has to be followed by a short summary in German. Articles in German may be completed with a summary in English or French. This summary however is only desirable if the text is longer than 15 pages;
- Bibliography (see "Bibliography");
- Proofs of illustration (see "Illustrations and tables");
- Address of authors (complete, according to the regulations of the Deutsche Bundespost);
- Captions (see "Illustrations and tables").
Quotation
It has to be quoted according the so called natural sciences quotation rules; in the ongoing text in brackets - name of author in small capitals followed by year of publication and page.
- Several page numbers are separated be semicolon, page numbers at illustrations as well;
- Sub numbers at illustrations are placed after a comma after the number of the illustration;
- Remarks should be avoided;
- Names of authors have to be mentioned only regarding a publication listed in the bibliography;
- If several authors are mentioned, the names have to be separated by a full stop;
- If several works of one author are mentioned, the dates of publication are separated by semicolon;
- Quotations of historic sources stand in quotation marks. If possible direct quotations should be avoided.

MAIER (1991, 23) stellte fest, "dass in Teilen Südniedersachsens die Wartbergkultur eine grössere Rolle spielte, als bisher angenommen".
Besser: MAIER (1991, 23) wies darauf hin, dass die Wartbergkultur in Teilen Südniedersachsens eine grössere Rolle gespielt hat, als bisher angenommen.
Bibliography
At the end of the article a complete list of references has to be made up in alphabetical order according to the following style:
- Except "Hrsg." (For publisher) no abbreviations or short form have to be used;
- the literature is listed in following order: surname in small capitals, first name abbreviated, date of publication (with following colon), complete title, possibly title of periodical or textbook, separated from title of article by full stop, place of publication, year of publication, page;
- At periodicals the place of publication is dropped.

Illustrations and tables
- Only b/w illustrations can be reproduced in the publications.
- Illustrations, diagrams, tables, graphics etcetera can be submitted as EPS-, PICT-, JPEG or TIFF data;
- Photographs should be submitted as Scan-pat-tern, as (perfect) print or slide (not larger than format A4);
- Illustrations and text have to be submitted on separate data carrier;
- Due to cost folded plates will not be produced;
- Each illustration, table, graphic, etc. has to have a caption;
- each caption consists of "Abb.", current arabic number and the actual caption;
- following common abbreviations should be used:
- Community = Gde., district = GmK., number of archaeological site = FSTNr., number of inventory = InvNr., scale = M.

- All captions are to be gathered as an appendix at the end of the text (see "Text");
- Illustrations and captions have to be assigned to each other clearly;
- Statements on copyright, e.g. proofs of illustration are in the responsibility of the author;
- Proofs of illustration have to be listed in the text after the bibliographical reference and before the address of the author (see "Text").
