Information on the 2026 conference in Weißenburg, Bavaria

The 2026 meeting of the European Association for the Promotion of Experimental Archaeology (EXAR) will take place from 24 to 27 September in Weißenburg (Bavaria), Germany, in collaboration with the local Roman Museum. The focus will once again be on presentations on the latest methods for investigating finds and archaeological features, possibilities for analysis and reconstruction, as well as reports on scientific demonstrations and associated museological outreach methods.

On Thursday, early arrivals will meet for a get-together. A guided tour of the town is scheduled for 4 pm. Friday and Saturday are set aside for the lectures. In addition, the evening events offer an opportunity to exchange ideas and develop joint projects. On Saturday afternoon, the annual EXAR general meeting will take place. An excursion is planned to round off the event on Sunday morning.

Theme

The theme of the conference is: “Experimental Archaeology in Science and Education 2026”.

The lectures will present current ongoing experiments and projects in reconstructive archaeology, but the scientific method of experimental archaeology will also be discussed. Furthermore, case studies on the use of this method in educational work will be presented.
